Over the course of two weeks in late July and early August, This American Life featured a series of reports on the state of resegregation in schools across the country and several efforts to address this trend. It is refreshing to see this critical issue gain greater and more meaningful coverage in popular media outlets like This American Life.

Part 1 of the two-part series featured a story of “accidental integration” in Normandy, Missouri by New York Times Magazine reporter and integration advocate Nikole Hannah-Jones.

In Part 2 of the series, Chana Joffe-Walt explored the success of integration efforts in Hartford, Connecticut following a 1996 state court ruling (as explained in a previous ISP post).

If you missed these stories when they aired, please give them a listen. They are a critical, but accessible, take on the problem of resegregation in our nation’s schools.
